Master of Nutrition and Dietetics
The Master of Nutrition and Dietetics empowers students with the scientific knowledge and practical skills to positively influence the nutritional wellbeing of individuals, whnau, and communities across Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Programme Overview
If you're passionate about improving the health and nutrition of individuals and communities, then this is the programme for you. The MND will provide learning in medical nutrition therapy, public health nutrition, and food service systems. Students will gain practical skills through small group learning and 20 weeks of placement in a range of dietetic settings. They will also complete research to provide a foundation for evidence-based nutrition practice and higher degree research.
Programme Structure
The Master of Nutrition and Dietetics is a two-year, full-time programme (240 points). Students must complete the following courses:
- DIETETIC 703 - Clinical nutrition: Disease Pathophysiology and Management (15 points)
- DIETETIC 707 - Professional Skills 1 (30 points)
- DIETETIC 708 - Professional Skills 2 (30 points)
- DIETETIC 710 - Research Methods in Human Nutrition (15 points)
- MAORIHTH 701 - Foundations of Mori Health (15 points)
- POPLHLTH 765 - Nutrition Interventions in Public Health (15 points)
- DIETETIC 709A & DIETETIC 709B - Professional Skills 3 (30 points)
- DIETETIC 793A & DIETETIC 793B - Thesis (90 points)
Entry Requirements
Minimum Programme Requirements
- Study option: Research 240 points
- Grade required: GPA 6.0
- A relevant undergraduate degree (see further programme requirements for details)
- International applicants must have a minimum Academic IELTS 7.5 score, no bands less than 7.0
Further Programme Requirements
Entry to this master's is competitive and entry is limited. Entry is also subject to performance in the Multi Mini Interviews process. A relevant Bachelor's degree may include:
- Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Nutrition (Nutrition Pathway) from the University of Auckland
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science from the University of Auckland with sufficient nutrition content
- Bachelor of Science from the University of Auckland in a relevant area with sufficient nutrition content
- Bachelor of Health Sciences from the University of Auckland with sufficient nutrition, physiology, and biochemistry content
Fees
2026 Fees
- Domestic students: NZ$11,545.20
- International students: NZ$55,214 Fees are set in advance of each calendar year and will be updated on the university website. Fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel and health insurance, or living costs.
