Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Communication Conjoint BA / BC

The Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Communication Conjoint BA / BC is a four-year undergraduate program that combines professional skills in communication with an understanding of society, people, and culture.

Programme Overview

This conjoint brings together the specialized Communication pathway with the diverse and adaptable outlook of the BA. Students learn how to analyze ideas and issues, and then communicate and express these concepts to others. The variety of subjects available enables students to design a degree that fits their interests and career goals.

Programme Structure

The BA/BC usually takes four years to complete, with students enrolling in nine 15-point courses (135 points) each year. Students complete a total of 540 points, comprising:

• 255 points from BC courses
• 255 points from BA courses
• 30 points from General Education courses Students select one major for the BC component:
• Communication and Social Change
• Communication in Leadership
• Communication and Technology Students also follow a common programme of study, which provides them with key communication skills and knowledge in areas such as communication research, ethics, visual communication, and communication in Mori and Pacific contexts.

Entry Requirements

New Zealand Secondary School Qualifications

To enter the programme, students must meet the University Entrance (UE) standard and have a guaranteed rank score. The required rank score is:

• NCEA: 210
• CIE: 230
• IB: 28

Tertiary Qualifications

Students can transfer from another tertiary institution if they have completed one year of successful bachelor-degree level study at a recognized university. The minimum grade requirement is a GPA of 3.9.

International Students

International students must have one of the following:

• International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24
• General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level with a minimum of three A-Level subjects
• Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) with a minimum of three A-Level subjects The required scores are:
• IB: 28
• CIE: 230
• GCE A Level: BBC International students must also meet the English language requirements, with an IELTS score of 6.0 and no bands less than 5.5.

Fees

The 2026 fees for the programme are:

• Domestic students: NZ$9,232.65 $9,883.35
• International students: NZ$53,124 $54,150 The fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, and health insurance, or living costs.

• Semester Two 2026: 8 June 2026 The start dates for the programme are:
