Introduction to the Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Global Studies Conjoint

The Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Global Studies Conjoint is a comprehensive undergraduate program that combines the study of global issues with insights from a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, cultures, and languages. This conjoint degree allows students to complete a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Global Studies in less time than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.

Programme Overview

The BA/BGlobalSt conjoint program is designed to expose students to new ways of thinking about the world, develop their competence in another language, and grow their understanding of other cultures and perspectives. By combining Global Studies with a Bachelor of Arts, students can deepen their understanding of global issues through a wide range of subjects.

Programme Structure

The BA/BGlobalSt conjoint program usually takes four years to complete, consisting of 540 points. The program structure includes:

• 255 points from Bachelor of Arts courses
• 255 points from Bachelor of Global Studies courses
• 30 points from General Education courses

Students can choose either one or two majors for the Bachelor of Arts component and would normally take four or five Bachelor of Arts courses each year. For the Bachelor of Global Studies component, students choose from one of four majors:

• Global Environment and Sustainable Development
• Global Politics and Human Rights
• International Relations and Business

Entry Requirements

For New Zealand Students

To be eligible for the program, students must meet the University Entrance (UE) standard and achieve a guaranteed rank score. The specific requirements include:

• NCEA: 210 points with a minimum of 16 credits in each of three subjects
• CIE: 230 points with a minimum of three A-Level subjects
• IB: 28 points

For International Students

International students must have one of the following qualifications:

• International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24
• General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level with a minimum of three A-Level subjects
• Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) with a minimum of three A-Level subjects

Fees and Scholarships

2026 Fees

• Domestic students: NZ$9,369*
• International students: NZ$58,667*

Fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, and health insurance, or living costs.

• Application closing dates: Semester One 2026 - 8 December 2025
• Start dates: Semester One 2026 - 2 March 2026

Planning Your Degree

The Bachelor of Global Studies consists of core courses, a major, a language, area studies, General Education, and elective courses. Students must plan carefully to complete all elements of the degree.

Year One

• Core course: GLOBAL 102 Introduction to Global Studies
• Courses for the major: Up to three Stage I courses for the chosen major

Beyond the First Year

• Core courses: GLOBAL 200 and GLOBAL 300
• Major: 120 points with at least 45 points at Stage III
• Language: Sequential language study over two consecutive years
• Area study: Two courses, one at Stage II and one at Stage III
• General Education: One course at any time during the degree
• Elective courses: Some conjoints allow 15 points of elective study
