Program Overview

Introduction to the Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws Conjoint Degree

The Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws Conjoint Degree is a comprehensive program offered by the University of Auckland, combining a broad-based business program with legal acumen. This conjoint degree allows students to complete a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws in less time and with fewer points than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.

Programme Overview

The BCom/LLB conjoint degree is designed to provide students with a skill set that meets the high demands of any legal career. The program offers opportunities to gain knowledge of the law and its implications, analytical and research skills, social appreciation, a sense of public responsibility, and communication skills. During the Bachelor of Commerce component, students will complete a set of core courses, including an exciting two-course sequence in Business and Enterprise. This will introduce the types of choices facing entrepreneurs and managers and help students develop their academic and professional skills.

Programme Structure

The BCom/LLB conjoint degree usually takes five years to complete with a single Bachelor of Commerce major. Students will need to complete 675 points, including:

  • 255 points from Bachelor of Commerce courses

  • 15 points from a General Education course

In the first year, students will take LAW 121G Law and Society alongside three Bachelor of Commerce courses in Semester One and LAW 131 Legal Method, LAW 141 Legal Foundations, and two Bachelor of Commerce courses in Semester Two. Students will continue to take a mix of Law courses and Commerce courses in each of their second, third, fourth, and fifth years.
