Introduction to the Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws Conjoint Degree
The Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws Conjoint Degree is a comprehensive program offered by the University of Auckland, combining a broad-based business program with legal acumen. This conjoint degree allows students to complete a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws in less time and with fewer points than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.
Programme Overview
The BCom/LLB conjoint degree is designed to provide students with a skill set that meets the high demands of any legal career. The program offers opportunities to gain knowledge of the law and its implications, analytical and research skills, social appreciation, a sense of public responsibility, and communication skills. During the Bachelor of Commerce component, students will complete a set of core courses, including an exciting two-course sequence in Business and Enterprise. This will introduce the types of choices facing entrepreneurs and managers and help students develop their academic and professional skills.
Programme Structure
The BCom/LLB conjoint degree usually takes five years to complete with a single Bachelor of Commerce major. Students will need to complete 675 points, including:
- 255 points from Bachelor of Commerce courses
- 405 points from Bachelor of Laws courses
- 15 points from a General Education course
In the first year, students will take LAW 121G Law and Society alongside three Bachelor of Commerce courses in Semester One and LAW 131 Legal Method, LAW 141 Legal Foundations, and two Bachelor of Commerce courses in Semester Two. Students will continue to take a mix of Law courses and Commerce courses in each of their second, third, fourth, and fifth years.

Entry Requirements
My Highest Qualification is from New Zealand
To enter the program, students must meet the University Entrance (UE) standard and achieve a guaranteed rank score. They may also need to have studied certain subjects or achieved credits in particular subjects.
My Highest Qualification is from Outside New Zealand
If students' highest qualification is from outside New Zealand, they must have one of the following:
- International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24
- General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level, with a minimum of three A-Level subjects
- Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), with a minimum of three A-level subjects
Tertiary Qualifications
Students who have studied at a tertiary institution can transfer to the University of Auckland if they meet the requirements, including a minimum grade point average of 3.9.

- International students: NZ$47,218 $48,133*
Fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, and health insurance, or living costs.

Becoming a Barrister and Solicitor
To be admitted as a barrister and solicitor, students will need to complete a three-month Professional Legal Studies course after completion of the LLB or LLB(Hons). There are currently two providers of this course: The Institute of Professional Legal Studies and The College of Law (New Zealand).
