Introduction to the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Music Conjoint Program
The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Music Conjoint program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in both the arts and music. This program allows students to study society, people, and culture while following their musical interests and preparing for a wide range of careers.
Program Overview
The BA/BMus program develops essential skills that can help students adapt and thrive in a fast-changing, globalized economy and an evolving music industry. Students learn from leading researchers and develop their practice with some of the country's finest instrument teachers, music historians, and composers.
Program Structure
The BA/BMus program usually takes four years to complete, consisting of 540 points:
- 255 points from BA courses
- 255 points from BMus courses
- 30 points from a General Education course Students can choose up to two subjects as their major(s) for the BA component and select from various music specializations, including Performance, Jazz, Composition, Songcraft and Music Production, Musicology, and Music Education.

Entry Requirements
For New Zealand Students
To enter the program, students must meet the University Entrance (UE) standard and achieve a guaranteed rank score. Specific subject and other requirements may also apply.
For International Students
International students must have one of the following:
- International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24
- General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level, with a minimum of three A-Level subjects
- Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), with a minimum of three A-level subjects Minimum grade requirements and English language proficiency (IELTS Academic 6.0 with no bands less than 5.5) are also necessary.
Fees and Scholarships
2026 Fees
- Domestic students: NZ$8,568.45 $9,883.35
- International students: NZ$53,124 $54,150 Fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, and health insurance, or living costs.
