Programme Structure

The DMedSc programme typically takes three to four years to complete full-time or eight years part-time. The structure includes:

• Provisional enrolment upon entry
• Confirmation into the programme by the end of the first year, subject to meeting specific goals
• Continuation of research before submitting the thesis for examination, usually after three years and within four years of the start date
• The possibility of using original research completed before entry to the programme, provided it has not been submitted as part of a previous degree or diploma

Entry Requirements

Minimum Programme Requirements

• MBChB or equivalent
• Evidence of significant research experience
• English language proficiency: IELTS Academic with a score of 6.5, and no band less than 6.0

Further Programme Requirements

• Demonstration of the ability to research independently
• Possession of a high level of theoretical understanding
• Acceptance subject to staff availability for supervision and appropriate resources and facilities
• An initial statement of research intent to demonstrate research capability and experience
• At least five years of professional experience in medical practice

• Domestic students: NZ$8,847.60*
• International students: NZ$55,408.80*
• Fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, health insurance, or living costs
