Program Overview


Introduction to the Bachelor of Global Studies / Bachelor of Laws Conjoint

The Bachelor of Global Studies / Bachelor of Laws Conjoint is a comprehensive undergraduate program designed to equip students with a deep understanding of global issues, law, and human security. This conjoint degree allows students to complete a Bachelor of Global Studies and a Bachelor of Laws in less time than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.


Programme Overview

The Bachelor of Global Studies / Bachelor of Laws Conjoint is an interdisciplinary program that exposes students to new ways of thinking about the world, develops their competence in another language, and grows their understanding of other cultures and perspectives. The Law program arms graduates with a skill set that meets the high demands of any legal career.


Programme Structure

The conjoint degree usually takes five years to complete, consisting of 675 points:


  • 255 points from Bachelor of Global Studies courses
  • 405 points from Bachelor of Laws courses
  • 15 points from General Education courses

In the first year, students take LAW 121G Law and Society alongside two Bachelor of Global Studies courses in Semester One and LAW 131 Legal Method, LAW 141 Legal Foundations, and two Bachelor of Global Studies courses in Semester Two. Students continue to take a mix of Law courses and Global Studies courses in each of their second, third, fourth, and fifth years, including a General Education course in one of these years.


Entry Requirements

New Zealand Secondary School Qualifications

To enter the program, students must meet the University Entrance (UE) standard and achieve a guaranteed rank score. The specific requirements include:


  • NCEA: 210 with a minimum of 16 credits in each of three subjects from the NCEA approved subject list.
  • CIE: 230 with study of an additional language encouraged.
  • IB: 28 with study of an additional language encouraged.

Tertiary Qualifications

Students with tertiary qualifications may be eligible to transfer from another tertiary institution if they meet the minimum grade requirements, which include a GPA or GPE of 3.9.


International Students

International students must have one of the following:


  • International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24.
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level with a minimum of three A-Level subjects.
  • Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) with a minimum of three A-level subjects.

Minimum grade, subject, and other requirements apply, including English language proficiency.

  • Domestic students: NZ$8,328*
  • International students: NZ$52,148*

Fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, and health insurance, or living costs.

How to Structure Your Conjoint Global Studies Degree

Year One

  • Take the Stage I core course: GLOBAL 102: Introduction to Global Studies.
  • Take up to three Stage I courses for your chosen major.

Beyond Your First Year

  • Complete core courses GLOBAL 200 and GLOBAL 300.
  • Complete your major with at least 45 points at Stage III.
  • Choose two courses at Stage II from the options listed for your chosen major.
  • Learn an additional language and study a region where your chosen language is spoken.
  • Take one General Education course at any time during your degree.
