Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Mori-Medium)

The Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Mori-Medium) is a unique programme that combines the flexibility of online learning and wnanga with practical placements. This programme is designed to meet the diverse needs in Kaupapa Mori and Mori-medium settings.


Programme Overview

Throughout this programme, students will explore holistic mokopuna development, specialist STEM curriculum, Mori-medium educational leadership, and culturally responsive assessment practices that integrate mtauranga Mori with contemporary approaches. Students will develop skills to teach effectively through te reo Mori while gaining theoretical and practical experience in school placements.


Programme Structure

The GradDipTchg(MM) is a one-year 150-point programme that combines the flexibility of online learning and two extended practical placements, complemented by wnanga. The programme has 9 required courses, made up of seven Curriculum and Professional courses and two Practicum courses.

    • MTAU 602: Te Kaittaki Leadership (15 points)
    • MTAU 604: Ng Marautanga 2 Design for Learning 2 (15 points)
    • MTAU 606: Noho--kura 2 Practicum 2 (15 points)
    • MTAU 607: Rukuhia Rarangahia Assessment Journeys (15 points)
    • MTAU 609: Pngarau Mathematics Years 1-10 (15 points)

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum Programme Requirements: A bachelor's degree or higher in any discipline with a GPA of 2.4.
  • Language Requirement: Achieved Whakamtauria T Reo Mori Level 3 (National Mori Language Proficiency Examinations) or the equivalent.
  • Safety Checks: Satisfactory police check/s, safety checks, interview, and referees reports.
  • Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand Criteria: Demonstrate the potential to meet the criteria for provisional registration and certification.

Fees

  • 2026 Fees for Domestic Students: NZ$9,036 $9,036 (inclusive of 15% GST, but does not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, and health insurance, or living costs).
  • Student Services Fee: $9.44 per point, estimated at $1,416.00 for full-time study (150 points).
