Academic Integrity Course
The Academic Integrity Course is a mandatory online course for all students starting a new program at the University of Auckland. The course is designed to increase students' understanding of academic integrity, university rules regarding academic conduct, and how academic misconduct is managed.
Course Overview
The course consists of six distinct modules that cover the following topics:
- The values of academic integrity
- Effective referencing
- Ethical collaboration
- Seeking third-party assistance
- Understanding copyright
- Research integrity
During these modules, students are presented with scenarios centered on academic integrity, providing information about relevant rules, resources, and expected behaviors.
Course Requirements
To complete the course, students must:
- Achieve a 100% score in all quizzes
- Complete six modules and five sets of quizzes with six questions each (30 questions in total)
- Work through the modules and complete the tests at their own pace
- Finish the course within 45 minutes to 2 hours
Enrollment and Access
Students are automatically enrolled in the Academic Integrity Course when they enroll in at least one other course for the semester. The course appears as a separate course on Canvas, and students can access it by choosing the course tile.
Completion Deadline
The recommended completion deadline for the Academic Integrity Course varies by student type:
- Undergraduate students: by the end of their first semester of study
- Graduate School of Management students: by the end of their first quarter of study
- Postgraduate students (excluding doctoral candidates): by the end of their first semester or academic year
- Doctoral candidates: within the first two months of their candidature
Impact of Not Completing the Course
If a student does not complete the Academic Integrity Course, they will receive a DNC (Did Not Complete) grade on their transcript. They will be automatically re-enrolled in the course for the next semester or quarter until it is completed. Failure to complete the course before finishing their program will prevent graduation.
Exemptions
Students who have previously completed the University of Auckland's Academic Integrity Course are exempt from completing it again.
Academic Integrity Definition
Academic integrity is defined as the honesty students demonstrate in their studies and assessments. It is a key foundation of being a member of the University's academic community.
