Introduction to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Program
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program at the University of Auckland offers students a comprehensive education in engineering, with a strong focus on theoretical foundations, practical applications, and professional development.
Pathways into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
There are several pathways into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program, including:
- Direct entry into the program for students who meet the entry requirements
- Alternative pathways for students who do not meet the entry requirements, including a pathway via the Faculty of Science
Alternative Pathway via the Faculty of Science
The alternative pathway via the Faculty of Science is designed for students who have not met the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program. To be eligible for this pathway, students must:
- Enrol in a Bachelor of Science degree
- Complete approved courses in mathematics and physics
- Achieve a minimum GPA of 5.0 across 60 points of study
- Attain minimum grades in the approved mathematics and physics courses
Approved Courses for the Alternative Pathway
The approved courses for the alternative pathway are:
- MATHS 102 or MATHS 108 for mathematics
- PHYSICS 102 or PHYSICS 120 for physics
- A General Education course from the Open Schedule and Schedule 3
- WTRSCI 100: Contemporary Science in Aotearoa New Zealand
Minimum Grades Required for the Alternative Pathway
The minimum grades required for the alternative pathway are:
- A- in MATHS 102 or MATHS 108 for mathematics
- A- in PHYSICS 102 or B in PHYSICS 120 for physics
Next Steps: Admission into Semester Two
Once students have been admitted to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program for Semester Two, they will be expected to enrol in the following courses:
- CHEMMAT 121 Materials Science
- ELECTENG 101 Electrical and Digital Systems
- ENGGEN 115 Principles of Engineering Design
- ENGGEN 131 Introduction to Engineering Computation and Software Development
Full-Year Pathway into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
There is also a full-year pathway into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program, which allows students to transfer into Part I of the program after completing a full year of study in the Bachelor of Science degree. To be eligible for this pathway, students must:
- Undertake a full year of study in the Bachelor of Science degree
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0 throughout the full academic year
- Gain at least a B in the appropriate mathematics and physics courses
Possible Credits towards the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
Students who gain entry into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program through the alternative pathway may be eligible for credits towards the program, including:
- ENGSCI 111 if they achieve a minimum of B+ in MATHS 108
- WTRENG 100 or a General Education if they pass WTRSCI 100 or a General Education course
