Program Overview

Undergraduate Study in Creative Practice: Popular Music

The University of Auckland offers a Bachelor of Music degree with a specialisation in Creative Practice: Popular Music. This programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in music, focusing on composition, performance, and music production.

What Can You Study?

In the first year, students will compose, perform, and record songs on a weekly basis, have one-on-one instrumental lessons, and study music technology and production, arranging, performance, and music notation, theory, and history. The second year builds on these skills, with the goal of establishing a distinctive creative process and style. The third year offers the opportunity to concentrate on advancing either music technology and music production skills or performance skills, while still composing and performing as a songwriter.
