The MProfAcctg is a professional coursework masters programme that provides academic preparation necessary to qualify as a chartered accountant or certified practising accountant. This programme is recognised by CAANZ, CPA Australia, ACCA, and CIMA.
Programme Structure
The MProfAcctg is a 15-month, 180-point programme studied over five quarters. You will study core business courses along with a set of specialised accounting and related courses. A professional development module is also an important component of your degree.
Courses
You will develop a strong foundation in management, business analytics, financial reporting, and economics through the core courses in this programme. You will also gain advanced knowledge of a range of accounting principles in your specialised courses.

- BUSMGT 709: Economics and Business Analytics (15 points) - Focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary to comprehend, formulate, and lead strategies in the external economic environment.
- BUSMGT 711: Managing People and Organisations (15 points) - Focuses on the foundations of organisational behaviour and managing within the workplace.
- BUSMGT 713: Financial Reporting and Control (15 points) - Focuses on essential accounting knowledge for effective resource allocation and for quantifying, assessing, and communicating information about the health of the enterprise.
- BUSACT 731: Financial Reporting (15 points) - This financial reporting and accounting course delves into the intricacies of accounting standards, emphasising the understanding and critical analysis of the accounting standard-setting process.
Specialisation
- BUSACT 701: Commercial and Corporate Law (15 points) - Examines the impact of the law on decision making and management of an organisation.
- BUSACT 703: Taxation for Business (15 points) - Provides an overview of the Income Tax Act and the Goods and Services Tax Act and how they are relevant to taxpayers.
- BUSACT 704: Auditing for Business (15 points) - Provides an understanding of the audit of financial statements that lends support to their credibility.
- BUSACT 732: Business Finance (15 points) - The course is designed to help participants appreciate the role financial managers play within the management team as they seek to create wealth for shareholders and all other stakeholders in general.
- BUSACT 734: Strategic Management Accounting (15 points) - Focus on the design and management of revenue and cost management systems, exploring in-depth analyses of budgets, standards, costing systems, and tools for decision-making and control.
- BUSMGT 707: Professional Development (15 points) - Develops key interpersonal strategies and communication skills to become an agile, reflective professional and to manage the professional self effectively and cooperatively in a range of business environments.
Advanced Specialisation
- BUSACT 702: Accounting Information Systems (15 points) - Examines the process of development and distribution of accounting information for decision making.
- BUSACT 705: Capstone Project for MProfAcctg (15 points) - Provides opportunities to extend and integrate the understanding of theoretical and practical issues in accounting through a real-world business case.

Entry Requirements
- All our Business Masters degrees are pre-experience coursework programmes, requiring little or no work experience to gain entrance.
- To gain entry, you will need to have completed a bachelor's degree from a recognised university with the equivalent of at least a New Zealand B average in the most advanced courses.

- Academic IELTS 6.5, with no band less than 6.0
- TOEFL (paper-based) 575 (TWE 4.5)
