Program Overview

Introduction to the Velocity Programme

The Velocity programme is a University of Auckland initiative that offers students the opportunity to develop transferable skills, build connections, and make a real impact. As a member of the Velocity Committee, students will develop sought-after skills, gain leadership experience, and contribute to one of the Universitys most celebrated initiatives.

About the Programme

The Velocity programme is free for University of Auckland students and staff. While there are no formal assessments, participation may count towards the co-curricular recognition programme and the Distinguished Graduate Award. The programme is organised into subteams, each focusing on specific components of Velocity but united by a shared purpose: creating a world-class programme.

Subteams

  • Challenges: This team is responsible for the planning and execution of Velocitys flagship competitions and events, including the Ideas Challenge and $100k Challenge.
  • Marketing: This team leads all things branding and communication, developing creative content that tells the Velocity story and drives student engagement.
  • Outreach: This team builds connections with faculties, student clubs, and communities across the university and beyond, holding workshops and initiatives aimed at engaging a diverse range of students.
  • Postgraduate: This team champions postgraduate engagement across Velocity, designing initiatives that connect university postgraduate students with the entrepreneurship ecosystem.

What You Will Gain

At Velocity, people are at the heart of everything we do. The programme is committed to supporting students' growth and success throughout their leadership journey. By participating in the Velocity programme, students will:

  • Develop transferable skills through professional development workshops
  • Connect with the broader Velocity community, the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and inspiring ventures participating in the programme
  • Earn credits towards the Co-curricular Recognition Programme, meeting the requirements for the Leadership path, taking them halfway to achieving the prestigious Distinguished Graduate Award
  • Gain leadership skills by championing and leading projects while being supported by a team of peers
  • Acquire practical skills, depending on the subcommittee, in areas such as project management, event management, graphic design, web development, and professional communication
