Introduction to the Co-Curricular Recognition Programme

The Co-Curricular Recognition Programme is designed to encourage and recognize students' involvement in co-curricular activities that develop skills and learning experiences through a structured and meaningful way.

General Information

• What is the Co-Curricular Recognition Programme?: The programme actively encourages and recognizes students involvement in co-curricular activities.
• Who is eligible to complete the Co-Curricular Recognition Programme and achieve the Distinguished Graduate Award?: Any student enrolled at the University of Auckland is eligible.
• How to make a submission: Students need to be enrolled in a path, receive a confirmation email, and follow the steps outlined.
• Completion of one path: Completing only one path will not result in the Distinguished Graduate Award being listed on the Academic Transcript.
• Postgraduate participation: Postgraduate students are welcome to participate in the programme and work towards the Distinguished Graduate Award.
• Graduation and programme completion: Students can enrol in the programme to complete the paths and work towards the Distinguished Graduate Award, but it is recommended to allow a minimum of 5-6 months to complete the process.
• Eligibility after graduation: The Co-Curricular Recognition Programme is available only for current students of the University of Auckland.

Distinguished Graduate Award

• What is the Distinguished Graduate Award?: The highest achievement in the programme, recognizing co-curricular activities and volunteer work, added to the students academic transcript at graduation.
• Requirements for the Distinguished Graduate Award: Students must complete two co-curricular paths, attend a final workshop, and pass a final interview.
• Eligibility with completed hours: Completing the required hours is not sufficient; students must also complete a professional development workshop and a written reflection for each path.
• Timeframe for completion: Students can complete the programme and requirements for as long as they are enrolled at the University of Auckland, but it is advised to complete all requirements 2 months before the Graduation ceremony.
• Certificate upon receiving the Distinguished Graduate Award: Yes, students will receive a certificate at the Co-Curricular Recognition Ceremony.

Paths and Activities

• Number of paths: Students can complete one path at a time.
• Choosing a path: Students should choose paths for which they enjoy the activities the most or have already completed or are close to completing the required hours.
• Finding the best fit: Volunteer activity defines the path; students can look at the list of activities and learning outcomes on the website.
• Activity contribution: An activity can only be used for one path.
• Internship experience: Can be used if it is non-academic, in a non-profit organisation, unpaid, and community-based.
• Paid position on campus: Can be counted if it is not full-time, community-based, and non-academic.
• Past volunteering experiences: Can be recognized if undertaken within the last two years as a University of Auckland student.
• Volunteering activities eligibility: Must match the learning outcomes from the path and meet specific criteria.

Workshop and Written Reflection

• Professional Development Workshop: Students can sign up through the website; the workshop does not need to be directly related to the volunteer activity or path.
• Written reflection requirements: 300-500 words, showcasing learning outcomes from the volunteer experience and the Professional Development Workshop.
• Approval process: Written reflections will not be approved until the Professional Development Workshop and volunteering hours have been submitted and approved.
