Infection, Immunity and Anti-Microbial Therapies

This online module is designed to deepen your knowledge and confidence in infection care, using real-world case studies and evidence-based practice.


About this Course

Develop your knowledge, confidence, and competence in providing care for patients with infections. Building upon your clinical experience and case studies from practice, you will be challenged to interrogate the evidence that underpins clinical decisions.


This module is completely online, using the latest digitally enhanced teaching techniques, and delivered asynchronously and synchronously. You will be taught and supported by academic lecturers and practising clinicians with a wealth of experience and expertise in their field.

Course Structure

The module will challenge you to:


  • Enhance your understanding of the physiology of immunity and response to infection, including sepsis
  • Critically interrogate the evidence and decision-making which informs the choice of clinical therapies for those with infections
  • Develop your knowledge of common pathogens, presentations, and treatments, including anti-microbial pharmacology
  • Consider how immune-compromise impacts on an individuals response to illness
  • Explore and debate the concept of antibiotic stewardship and drug resistance

Entry Requirements

  • A degree at 2:2 or above
  • An undergraduate diploma
  • Evidence of successful completion of level 7 study within the past 5 years
  • Current registration with a UK health regulatory body
  • A minimum of six months clinical experience
