Program Overview
University of Ottawa Professional Development Institute
The University of Ottawa Professional Development Institute offers a unique opportunity for cybersecurity professionals to enhance their skills through immersive and realistic training.
uOttawa-IBM Cyber Range
The uOttawa-IBM Cyber Range is a state-of-the-art facility that provides customized cybersecurity training. It is Canada's only and the world's first university-affiliated, non-proprietary information security (InfoSec) training facility.
Prepare for Any Cyber Crisis
The Cyber Range provides transformative cybersecurity protection, moving from theory to instinct through customized simulations. This enables participants to develop differential diagnosis skills, detecting subtle signs of potential breaches before they become disasters.
Eliminate the Cybersecurity Skills Gap
The Cyber Range helps develop practical, applicable skills that can be directly applied in technology and business management positions. This enhances the cybersecurity posture of any organization, enabling effective incident-response skills and informed decision-making.
Gain Practical, Applicable Skills
Through immersive simulations, participants learn to manage cyber crises, protecting sensitive data and systems. The realistic environment provides hands-on experience, with fully functional workstations, email, chat, and access to a virtual network of servers and endpoints.
Customize Your Training Simulation
The Cyber Range simulations are customized to replicate an organization's real-world digital network and toolset in an isolated, air-gapped environment. Expert instructors create crisis scripts based on each client's cyber risk profile, using cutting-edge technology for cybersecurity testing, planning, and training.
Train With the Latest Technologies
The Cyber Range is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including:
- Technologies for creating an exact clone of an organization's network and operational resources
- 30 iMac workstations for training and simulations
- RHEA Group's Cyber Integration, Test, and Evaluation Framework (CITEF) for technical simulations
- A diverse scenario library that can be accessed online and in person
Develop Hands-On Experience
The Cyber Range simulation environment provides participants with hands-on experience managing a cyber crisis. During half-day to two-day scenarios, participants assume roles, sitting at fully functional workstations with email, chat, and access to a virtual network of servers and endpoints.
Train in a Unique Environment
The uOttawa Cyber Range is an immersive platform tied directly to industry needs for on-the-ground professional development in practical knowledge, skills, and abilities. It is part of a complete approach to InfoSec training at PDI's InfoSec Center of Excellence, which includes:
- Information and Cybersecurity Management Program
- National Security and Intelligence Advanced Certificate Program
- The Information Integrity Lab
Apply Skills Immediately
The immersive Cyber Range environmental training provides a rewarding way to learn, with participants seeing how their plans fail or succeed under real pressure. Skills learned in the Cyber Range can be directly applied to enhance cybersecurity policies, procedures, tactics, and strategies at both the technology and business management level.
Access a Continuum of Learning
In addition to Cyber Range training, PDI provides additional learning in the cyber and security field, including:
- Financial Intelligence Specialist Program
- Coding for Veterans
- Cyber Skills for Canadians
