Program Overview

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a specialization in Public Health and Population Health is a 120-credit program that offers an integrative approach to health studies. Students benefit from training in biosciences, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, and an interdisciplinary approach to studying health determinants. This unique approach enables students to discover innovative methods for studying, analyzing, and addressing complex health problems that arise at every stage of life, in Canada and around the world.

Program Description

The Public Health and Population Health specialization fosters interdisciplinary training in health sciences, founded on theories and methodologies related to population health and public health, which remain the foundation of Canada's health system. Students evaluate health scenarios from local and global perspectives, critique health frameworks, develop health interventions, including health promotion strategies, distinguish structural and systemic causes of health disparities, and assess the contributions of intersectoral collaborations in health.

Career Opportunities

Graduates will be well-prepared to pursue studies in a master's program in health-related sciences or pursue a career in a public or private agency, non-governmental organization, or community health program. Students receive basic training necessary to pursue studies in medicine, rehabilitation sciences, dentistry, or pharmacy. The interdisciplinary approach enhances the quality and maturity of future clinicians and health professionals.
