Overview of the Canadian Law Program

The Canadian Law Program (PDC) is a three-year program leading to the obtention of two degrees (LL.L. and J.D.). It is an innovative training that allows students to benefit from the richness of Canada's diverse legal traditions to better respond to societal changes.

Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa has been training lawyers in civil law and common law for over 50 years. Mindful of reflecting Canada's linguistic and legal plurality, the Faculty has offered the Canadian Law Program (PDC) since September 2008.

Program Objectives

The program aims to train individuals capable of analyzing the law from all its facets. Students have access to specially designed courses for the PDC. These courses are primarily taught in French, but knowledge of English is necessary.

Admission Requirements

• At least three years of university studies (except for adult candidates)
• A remarkable academic record
• A form of community and social commitment
• The ability to follow a rigorous study program in French
• Some knowledge of English
• Favorable letters of recommendation

Program Structure

• Total program credits: 108 credits
• Total required credits: 75 credits
• Total elective credits: 33 credits
• Among the optional courses, a minimum of 18 credits of civil law (DRC) courses must be completed, and a minimum of 15 credits of common law (CML) courses must be completed.
• A minimum of 3 credits in Indigenous law must be completed.
