Program Overview

The EduTek program is a 19-month training program that prepares students to teach in a variety of technology fields in the Intermediate/senior divisions (Grades 9 to 12). The program is designed for skilled tradespeople and individuals with a professional background in technology who want to take on new challenges.

Program Details

• Duration: 19 months (5 terms)
• Location: Online and in-person (Ottawa campus)
• Language: French
• Practicum: 80 days

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission, applicants must meet one of the following five options:

1. Option 1: Pathway to a Certificate in Education (C.Ed.)

• Required education: High school diploma
• Experience required: A minimum of 5 years of wage-earning experience in the desired field of education
• Supporting documents: High school diploma, proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience

2. Option 2: Pathway to a Certificate in Education (C.Ed.)

• Required education: High school diploma, certificate of qualification in a skilled trade, or one-year certificate of college studies
• Experience required: A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in business or industry in the desired field of education
• Supporting documents: High school diploma, proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience, certificate of qualification or college diploma

3. Option 3: Pathway to a Certificate in Education (C.Ed.)

• Required education: High school diploma, two-year college diploma in the desired teaching field
• Experience required: A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in business or industry in the desired field of education
• Supporting documents: High school diploma, college diploma, proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience

4. Option 4: Pathway to a Certificate in Education (C.Ed.)

• Required education: High school diploma, three-year college diploma in the desired teaching field
• Experience required: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in business or industry in the desired field of education
• Supporting documents: High school diploma, college diploma - advanced level, proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience

5. Option 5: Pathway to a Bachelor of Education in Technology (B.Ed.)

• Required education: Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 90 units in the desired field of study
• Experience required: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience related to the desired field of teaching
• Supporting documents: Transcript of undergraduate degree, proof of related postsecondary skilled work and/or wage-earning experience

Experience Profile

Experience is key for admission to the program. Applicants must submit an experience profile that specifies their breadth of experience in the field(s) of technology they have chosen for the technology teacher education program.

Language Proficiency Test (TCLF-EduTek)

Applicants must pass the French Language Proficiency Test (TCLF-EduTek) to be admitted into the technology education teacher program. The test is taken online and has three components: identifying errors, answering comprehension questions, and writing an argumentative text.

Course Sequence

The program consists of five terms, with a combination of online and in-person courses. The course sequence is as follows:

• Term 1 (winter): 3 courses and 2 half-courses
• Term 2 (spring/summer): 4 courses
• Term 3 (fall): 2 courses + a 40-day practicum
• Term 4 (winter): 4 half-courses + a 40-day practicum
• Term 5 (spring/summer): 3 courses and 2 half-courses
