Co-op Programs
The Co-op Programs at the University of Ottawa offer students the opportunity to gain practical work experience in their field of study.
Business Technology Management
The Business Technology Management (BTM) co-op program is designed for students registered in the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Option in Business Technology Management) program.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the BTM co-op program, students must:
- Be registered full-time in the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Option in Business Technology Management) program and maintain a full-time status during all study terms, including the one after the last work term
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 6 in courses taken at the University of Ottawa
- Have completed all first-year course requirements and be registered in mandatory second-year fall and winter courses
Work/Study Sequences
There are three work/study sequences available to students in the BTM co-op program:
- Sequence 1: The default sequence for all students
- Year 1: Study (Fall and Winter)
- Year 2: Study (Fall and Winter), Work 1 (Summer)
- Year 3: Study (Fall), Work 2 (Winter), Study (Summer)
- Year 4: Work 3 (Fall), Study (Winter), Work 4 (Summer)
- Year 5: Study (Fall and Winter)
- Sequence 2: Available to students hired for 12-month terms with the same company
- Year 1: Study (Fall and Winter)
- Year 2: Study (Fall and Winter), Work 1 (Summer)
- Year 3: Study (Fall), Work 2 (Winter), Work 3 (Summer)
- Year 4: Work 4 (Fall), Study (Winter)
- Year 5: Study (Fall and Winter)
- Sequence 3: Available to students hired for 8-month terms with the same company
- Year 1: Study (Fall and Winter)
- Year 2: Study (Fall and Winter), Work 1 (Summer)
- Year 3: Study (Fall), Work 2 (Winter), Study (Summer)
- Year 4: Work 3 (Fall), Work 4 (Winter)
- Year 5: Study (Fall and Winter)
Co-op Fees
Co-op students pay co-op fees for the session before their first work term and for every work term, up to and including their last one.

Tasks at Work
Co-op students in the BTM program may be assigned tasks such as:
- Documenting software
- Doing database queries
- Learning new internal and external applications
- Presenting applications and functionalities to clients and key staff
- Testing software and applications
- Writing protocols and basic tests
Application Process
To apply for the BTM co-op program, students can follow one of two easy ways:
- Reserved Placement: Students can apply for direct admission to the co-op program when they apply for regular admission to the University.
- Applying Once at the University of Ottawa: Students can apply for the co-op program after they have registered at the University of Ottawa.
