Master of Science Human Kinetics
The Master of Science Human Kinetics program at the University of Ottawa is designed to provide students with an integrated approach to the study of sport, physical activity, and health. The program allows students and professors to share research interests and professional expertise, contributing to the broad field of human kinetics.
Program Description
The MSc program in Human Kinetics pursues three major objectives:
- To contribute to the accumulation of facts and scientific data related to sport, physical activity, and health, as well as to foster the development of critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities.
- To facilitate the acquisition of quantitative and qualitative knowledge in the field of biophysical sciences of sport, physical activity, and health.
- To prepare human kinetics specialists to play a determinant role in Canadian society.
Main Areas of Research
The focus of the program is on biophysical sciences, such as biomechanics, physiology, and psychomotor aspects, as they relate to sport, physical activity, and health.

Admission Requirements
To be eligible, candidates must:
- Have an honours bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in human kinetics or a related field, with a minimum average of 70% (B).
- Identify at least one professor who is willing to supervise their research and thesis.
- Applicants whose first language is neither French nor English must provide proof of proficiency in the language of instruction.
Language Requirements
Applicants must be able to understand, write, and fluently speak the language of instruction (French or English) in the program to which they are applying. Proof of linguistic proficiency may be required.
Program Requirements
Students must meet the following requirements:
- Coursework: Students must complete compulsory courses, including Quantitative Data Analysis in Sport, Physical Activity, and Health, and Selected Topics in Sport, Physical Activity, and Health.
- Thesis Proposal: Students must complete a Master's Thesis Proposal.
- Thesis: Students must complete a Master's Thesis.

Fast-Track from Master's to PhD
Students enrolled in the master's program in human kinetics at the University of Ottawa may be eligible to fast-track directly into the doctoral program without writing a master's thesis. For additional information, students should consult the "Admission Requirements" section of the PhD program.
Minimum Requirements
The passing grade in all courses is C+. Academic Regulation applies for withdrawal from the program of study.
