Certificate Creative Writing

The Certificate in Creative Writing is designed for individuals not currently enrolled in a full-time university program. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to develop and hone their writing skills while trying out new genres and styles. Guided by accomplished experts, students will learn to create, edit, and revise their creative writing in 3 of the following genres: poetry, fiction, creative-non-fiction, writing for stage and screen, and graphic fiction and comics.

This program is offered in English only. The Certificate in Creative Writing consists of 30 units.

The program requirements include:

• 3 units from Introduction to Creative Writing (ENG 2301)
• 6 course units from:
  • Introduction to Writing Prose Fiction (ENG 2303)
  • Introduction to Writing Poetry (ENG 2304)

• 3 optional course units in English (ENG) at the 2000 level (note: certain courses are excluded from this requirement)
• 6 optional course units in English (ENG) at the 3000 or 4000 level (note: certain courses are excluded from this requirement)

Notes

1. The following courses cannot count towards the 3 optional course units in English (ENG) at the 2000 level: ENG 2105, ENG 2106, ENG 2124, ENG 2301, ENG 2303, ENG 2304, ENG 2305, ENG 2306, and ENG 2307.
2. The following courses cannot count towards the 6 optional course units in English (ENG) at the 3000 or 4000 level: ENG 3170, ENG 3171, ENG 3180, ENG 3181, ENG 3182, ENG 3303, ENG 3304, ENG 3305, ENG 3306, ENG 3307, ENG 4397, ENG 4398, and ENG 4399.
