Course Sequence

The Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Sciences (Ph.D.) is a graduate program that aims to train high-level rehabilitation researchers and professionals.


Admission in Fall 2025 or After

Students admitted in fall 2025 or later must follow the following course plan:


  • 1st year:
    • REA 7501 Team research and interdisciplinary methodology
    • REA 7103 Seminar on knowledge transfer
  • 1st year (continued):
    • REA 7102 Research seminar on the functioning of the person and on rehabilitation models
    • Optional course (3 credits) chosen from the list of optional courses
  • 1st year (end):
    • REA 9998 Comprehensive exam (CTN)
  • 2nd year:
    • REA 9998 Comprehensive exam (CTN)
    • REA 9997 Thesis proposal (CTN)
  • 2nd year (continued):
    • REA 9997 Thesis proposal
  • 3rd year:
    • THD 9999 Doctoral thesis (CTN)
  • 3rd year (continued):

  1. Students must choose 3 course credits from the following list of optional courses:
  • ERG 5125 Exploration of occupational participation (3 units)
  • ERG 5526 Analysis of occupational participation (1.5 units)
  • ERG 5527 Occupational participation of children and adolescents (1.5 units)
  • ERG 5128 Sociopolitical aspects of occupational participation (3 units)
  • ERG 5722 Theoretical perspectives and models in occupational therapy (3 units)
  • ERG 5754 Research in occupational therapy (3 units)
  • ORA 6510 Speech therapy concepts relevant to audiology (3 units)
  • ORA 6710 Audiology concepts relevant to speech therapy (3 units)
  • PHT 5112 Functional anatomy of the musculoskeletal system (3 units)
  • PHT 5113 Clinical Biomechanics (3 units)
  • REA 7105 Qualitative Research in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies (3 units)
  • REA 7900 Directed Studies (3 units)
  1. To replace an optional course with a 3-credit elective course in graduate studies, students must obtain approval from the course professor, the thesis supervisor, as well as the director of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences.
  2. Students must register for this activity each term until it is completed.
