Program Overview

Advanced Material Manufacturing Program

The Advanced Material Manufacturing program is designed to provide students with a broad-based education in materials, manufacturing processes, coatings, characterization, and testing. With a primary focus on materials, the program enables graduates to meet manufacturing challenges related to a wide range of mechanical, armor, energy, aeronautical, naval, thermal, and biomedical systems and devices.

Degree Options

  • Master of Applied Science in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (MASc)
  • Master of Engineering in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (MEng)
  • Doctorate of Philosophy in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (PhD)

Program Description

The program provides state-of-the-art education and cutting-edge research in materials, manufacturing processes, coatings, characterization, and testing. Established in 1983, the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (OCIMAE) combines the research strengths of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University.

Key Research Themes

  • Thermal and fluid engineering
  • Solid mechanics and design
  • Materials and manufacturing
  • Controls and robotics
  • Biomedical engineering
  • Aeronautical and space engineering

Language

The programs are only offered in English.

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements for the program can be found on the university's website.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the program can pursue careers in various fields, including:

  • Aeronautical/aerospace engineer
  • Automotive engineer
  • Manufacturing engineer
  • Robotics/automation/controls engineer

Accelerated Master's Stream

Current University of Ottawa Engineering undergraduates can benefit from the accelerated master's stream, which allows them to take select graduate-level courses during their bachelor's and transition seamlessly into a master's program.

CO-OP Option

The master's program includes a CO-OP option, which provides two terms of valuable industry experience. New students must begin their academic studies in the Fall term to be eligible for the CO-OP program.
