Teacher Education Program

The Teacher Education Program is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching. The program offers various teaching subjects, each with its own set of requirements.

Teaching Subjects Chart - 2026 - Teacher Education

The program requires students to choose teaching subjects based on their division:

• Primary/Junior (P/J): French as a Second Language (FSL)
  • Kindergarten to grade 6: A total of 6 one-term courses in the given subject or (4 given subjects with a maximum of 2 related subjects)
• Junior/Intermediate (J/I)
  • Grade 4 to 10: Choose one teaching subject
  • A total of 6 one-term courses in the given subject or (4 given subjects with a maximum of 2 related subjects)
• Intermediate/Senior (I/S)
  • Grade 7 to 12: Choose two teaching subjects
  • Teaching subject 1: A total of 10 one-term courses in the given subject or (6 given subjects with a maximum of 4 related subjects)
  • Teaching subject 2: A total of 6 one-term courses in the given subject or (4 given subjects with a maximum of 2 related subjects)

• English
  • Required courses: English, Drama literacy, Creative and Functional Writing, English Composition, English Linguistics, Media Literacy, Literature, English as a second language at the 3000 level or more
  • Related courses: Journalism, Philosophy (Reasoning and Critical Thinking), Religious Studies, Translation (directed toward the English language only), Communication
• French as a Second Language (FSL)
  • Required courses: French as a second language, Linguistique française, Rédaction française, Didactique du français langue seconde, Grammaire française, Littérature canadienne ou de la francophonie
  • Related courses: Cours de premier cycle suivis en français, Traduction (vers le Français)
• Dramatic Arts
  • Required courses: At least 2 one-term courses in studio are required (e.g., acting, stage performance, production, set-design, dance, playwriting)

• Music Instrumental
  • Required courses: At least 2 one-term courses in Instrumental music are recommended (e.g., applied music, materials of music, solo performance studies, voice courses)
