Executive Education Program: Foundations of Governance for Board Members
About the Program
The Foundations of Governance for Board Members program is designed for community and business leaders who are about to join or have recently joined a board of directors. This two-day program provides a comprehensive introduction to corporate governance, equipping participants with the knowledge, tools, and skills necessary to actively contribute to their board's activities.
Who Should Attend
The program is intended for:
- Individuals who are new to or about to join a non-profit, crown corporation, or public entity board of directors
- Senior executives, executive assistants, or managers who support a board of directors or report to one
- Current board members seeking to refresh and strengthen their understanding of governance fundamentals
What You Will Learn
- The fundamentals of board governance, including individual and collective responsibilities and roles
- Governance structures, tools, and processes that enable a board to fulfill its fiduciary duties and function effectively
- How boards interact with CEOs and senior executives
- The roles boards play in oversight, strategic development, risk management, performance monitoring, and culture enhancement

Facilitators
Tanya Gracie
Facilitator
Tanya Gracie has a prolific career in governance, management, and strategy within public, cooperative, and non-profit organizations. With extensive professional experience in effective governance, strategy, and strategic initiatives, public policy, and partner engagement, she is both an advisor and a practitioner.
Ms. Gracie is actively involved in her community, currently serving on the board of the National Capital Commission and the Ottawa Youth Services Bureau. She holds a Bachelor's degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and an Executive MBA from the Telfer School of Management, and is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors program at the Rotman School of Management. She holds the IAS.A designation.
