The Animal Studies program is a socially engaged field of knowledge that explores the ethical, religious, philosophical, political, and sociocultural aspects of human-animal relationships. Program Structure

• The program offers a minor in Animal Studies, which requires 30 credits and must be taken in conjunction with a primary program.
• The microprogram in Animal Studies requires 15 credits and also must be taken in conjunction with a primary program, offering a broader range of interests with more course choices.

Program Description

The Animal Studies program treats the historical and contemporary dimensions of human relationships with other living beings, including the multitude of cultural behaviors adopted in interactions with the non-human world, the role and diverse representations of animals in human societies, and human moral responsibilities towards non-human animals. The emerging scientific interest in Animal Studies aims to account for the increasing sensitivity towards the living conditions of the animal world.
