Program Details

Cours de simulation des Nations Unies

The Cours de simulation des Nations Unies, also known as the Model United Nations course (FSS 3295), is a unique opportunity for students to develop their skills in diplomacy, international law, and foreign policy.

Course Description

This course allows students to simulate various United Nations committees, such as the Security Council and the General Assembly. The course covers topics including the functions of the United Nations and its committees, international law, foreign policy writing, and oral communication.

Admission Criteria

To be eligible for the course, students must:

• Be enrolled at the University of Ottawa in a specialized bachelor's program
• Have completed a minimum of 54 credits in their program at the time of application
• Have at least 6 available credits among their elective or optional courses
• Possess a strong command of English
• Be able to attend classes in person on the Ottawa campus
• Have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 6.0 or higher
• Have solid knowledge of international relations or international law
• Be able to defend ideas in public
• Be available to participate in a preparatory meeting in November, if necessary
• Be available to participate in person at the QMUN and NMUN conferences
• Be able to cover the costs associated with traveling to QMUN and NMUN
• Be able to travel legally to the United States

Application and Selection Process

Students interested in the course must apply by October 6, 2025, at midnight. The selection process is based on the students' experiences and knowledge relevant to the simulations.

Course Schedule

The course takes place every winter semester, on Tuesdays from 2:30 pm to 5:20 pm in room SMD330.

Costs

The costs associated with the course and the simulation in New York are the responsibility of the students and amount to approximately $1,800 CAD.

Bursary

Students who participate in the course will receive an international mobility bursary of $500, which will be deposited into their student account after the trip to New York.

Included Costs

The costs include:

• Round-trip transportation to NMUN (April 5-11, 2026) and QMUN (February 13-14, 2026)
• Accommodation at QMUN and NMUN
• Participation fees for NMUN and QMUN
• Travel insurance

Additional Costs

Additional costs, not included, are:

• Food: approximately $60 USD per day
• Personal expenses (in New York): variable
• Visa fees, if required
