Honours BA in Religious Studies

The Honours BA in Religious Studies is a 4-year program consisting of 120 course units. The course offering varies from year to year, and courses may not be offered at the suggested term. Students may adjust their course sequence as needed while respecting the course prerequisite(s).

Suggested Course Sequence

The suggested course sequence for the Honours BA in Religious Studies is as follows:

• 1st year:
  • Fall: ENG1100 (3 units) - Workshop in Essay Writing, 3 course units from: PHI1101 or PHI1301, SRS1112 (3 units) - The Religions of the World I, 3 course units from: AHL1100, AHL1900, ENG1120, 3 course units from: AHL1100, AHL1900, PHI1102, PHI1103, PHI1104, PHI1302
  • Winter: SRS2113 (3 units) - The Religions of the World II, SRS2191 (3 units) - Sociology of Religion, SRS2194 (3 units) - Anthropology of Religion, 6 course units (a combination of required courses from the 2nd discipline and/or elective courses)
• 2nd year:
  • Fall: SRS3102 (3 units) - Methodology and Theory in the Study of Religion, 3 optional course units from: SRS2351 or SRS3353, 6 optional course units in Religious Studies (SRS), 3 course units (a combination of required courses from the 2nd discipline and/or elective courses)
  • Winter: 6 optional course units in Religious Studies (SRS), 6 course units (a combination of required courses from the 2nd discipline and/or elective courses)
• 3rd year:
  • Fall: 6 optional course units in Religious Studies (SRS), 3 optional course units in Religious Studies (SRS) at the 3000 or 4000 level, 6 course units (a combination of required courses from the 2nd discipline and/or elective courses)
  • Winter: 3 optional course units in Religious Studies (SRS), 6 optional course units in Religious Studies (SRS) at the 3000 or 4000 level, 6 course units (a combination of required courses from the 2nd discipline and/or elective courses)
• 4th year:
  • Fall: 3 optional course units in Religious Studies (SRS) at the 3000 or 4000 level, 3 optional course units in Religious Studies (SRS) at the 4000 level, 9 course units (a combination of required courses from the 2nd discipline and/or elective courses)
  • Winter: SRS4302 (3 units) - Seminar in Religious Studies, 3 optional course units in Religious Studies (SRS) at the 3000 or 4000 level, 9 course units (a combination of required courses from the 2nd discipline and/or elective courses)

Notes

1. This course has variable topics. Students may take this course twice.
2. 9 of the 15 course units must be in Religious Studies (SRS).
3. The number of units at the 3000 level can be reduced according to the number of courses already taken at the 3000 or 4000 level.
4. The electives may be replaced by a combination of a Minor, Option(s), and/or elective units.
