Program Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is designed to prepare students to help individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations address challenges. This undergraduate major is the only one at UMBC that prepares students to become professional social workers, providing field experience and a comprehensive course of study.

Majoring in Social Work at UMBC prepares students to help individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations address challenges. The program balances the humanities with the social, behavioral, and biological sciences. As an undergraduate, students will take courses in technology in social work, social work practice methods, social welfare policy and services, human behavior, the social environment, statistics, and social research.

Advanced Degree Options
Students who complete UMBCs CSWE-Board of Accreditation-approved undergraduate program in social work qualify to apply for advanced standing status in the University of Maryland, Baltimores Master of Social Work Program, as well as other programs.
