Program Overview

Introduction to the Master's Program in Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

The Master's Program in Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, offered by the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), is a unique opportunity to explore the ethical, social, and political implications of artificial intelligence. This program combines tools from philosophy, law, engineering, and political analysis to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges posed by artificial intelligence.

Program Structure

The program consists of five modules:

I. Ethics Module (21 credits)

Coordinated by Fernando Aguiar (Instituto de Filosofía CSIC) and Antonio Gaitán (UC3M), this module addresses the ethical problems related to artificial intelligence, such as algorithmic fairness, privacy, and individual autonomy.

II. Public Policy, Regulatory Strategy, and Legal Framework Module (12 credits)

Coordinated by Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell (UC3M), this module debates the need for legislative intervention in the development and use of artificial intelligence, identifying different governance models and evaluating their consequences.

III. Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Society Module (12 credits)

Coordinated by Txetxu Ausín (Instituto de Filosofía CSIC) and Fernando Broncano (UC3M), this module analyzes the incidence of artificial intelligence on public deliberation, work organization, and social practices, as well as its effects on interpersonal relationships and political risks.

IV. Engineering and Computer Science Module (9 credits)

Coordinated by Gonzalo Génova Fuster (UC3M), this module provides a basic understanding of the technical and scientific foundations of artificial intelligence, including computer systems, artificial intelligence as a branch of computer science, and large language models.

V. Master's Thesis Module (6 credits)

Coordinated by Antonio Gaitán (UC3M) and Gonzalo Génova Fuster (UC3M), this module requires students to write a thesis demonstrating their analytical and argumentative skills in relation to the ethics of artificial intelligence, its legal regulation, technological bases, and social and political impact.
