Program Overview


Máster de Formación Permanente en Gestión de la Industria Cinematográfica

The Máster de Formación Permanente en Gestión de la Industria Cinematográfica is a professional response to the need for professionals with comprehensive and specific training in all aspects of the film industry.


Objectives

  • To address all pillars of film industry management, both theoretically and practically, with a balanced team of professors from academic and professional backgrounds.
  • To delve into the most relevant aspects where there is the greatest labor demand, such as promotion techniques in the external market, marketing and sales, international distribution, financial and budgetary management of production, or content exploitation with new technologies.
  • To facilitate students' access to the institutional or business job market that currently demands film industry management and in the conditions in which it does so.

Duration and Schedule

  • The program lasts for one academic year, with classes from October to June, and the presentation of the Final Master's Project in September.
  • Additionally, a minimum of 300 hours of practical training in institutions and/or companies in the sector.
  • The schedule is from Monday to Thursday, in the afternoon (from 18:00 to 21:00).
  • The 300 hours of practical training required in companies and institutions will always be face-to-face.

25 places are offered, although this number may be increased or decreased by no more than five to seven places.

Titulation

The title awarded is the Máster de Formación Permanente en Gestión de la Industria Cinematográfica for students who have completed higher university studies.

Applications will be selected based on:


  • Academic records and/or work experience in the sector
  • Complementary training
  • Languages

The Master's direction reserves the right to conduct interviews with candidates deemed appropriate.


Application Calendar

  • Applications that meet the requirements will be accepted in order of arrival, and admission will be subject to the existence of available places, which will be awarded to candidates with the most merits, experience, and motivation.
  • Formalization of enrollment up to 10 days after receiving the admission letter.

Enrollment

The enrollment fee is 8,300 euros, payable in three installments:


  • 1,000 euros to reserve a place once admission to the program has been communicated
  • 3,650 euros with a payment deadline of October 31
  • 3,650 euros with a payment deadline of March 15

Only the refund of the reservation fee can be requested in the event of impossibility of attendance due to serious illness or another equally serious reason, as well as due to force majeure.


Professional Outcomes

More than 80% of people who have taken the Master's have found work after completing the course. Many of our former students are working in companies and institutions in the sector at the national and multinational level, and others have formed their own companies dedicated to production, distribution, promotion, and international sales.

  • Cinematographic production companies in various fields related to project development, business management, and production planning of films
  • Marketing and communication companies in the audiovisual sector responsible for coordinating activities for the promotion of films and creating the visual concept of projects
  • Companies dedicated to national and international film distribution
  • Offices for the promotion of national cinematographies and market control
  • Institutions related to the film industry, such as the Film Academy, Film Library, or Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts
  • Film festivals and exhibitions

Job Market

The Universidad Carlos III de Madrid has a Career Guidance and Employment Service (SOE) with which the Master's has established an agreement for job search and professional promotion for its students.


Additionally, the University has associations of former students that pursue the same objective.


The Master's direction and board of directors will also try to facilitate access to the labor market for graduates. To this end, they have the help of collaborating entities, as well as institutions and companies that support the project and/or offer internships.


Scholarships

The Máster de Formación Permanente en Gestión de la Industria Cinematográfica announces 2 scholarships of 1,500 euros each for admitted students who have made a reservation and do not receive any type of aid to take the program.

Theoretical Formation

The total teaching load is 60 credits, organized into:


Theoretical Formation: 44 credits

  • 440 hours will be master classes, tutorials, workshops, seminars, round tables, visits to specific centers, and attendance at film events and meetings with prominent personalities from the world of cinema, as well as "Master Class" sessions.
  • The remaining hours are dedicated to mandatory readings, data searches, resolution of practical cases, specific work from the different thematic blocks, and preparation for written tests.
  • Theoretical training is distributed in four modules:
    • Jurídico y Empresarial Module: 15 credits, coordinated by D. Diego Pajuelo Almodóvar
    • Producción, Producción Ejecutiva y Sistemas de Financiación Module: 15 credits, coordinated by D. Félix Tusell
    • Marketing y Ventas Internacionales Module: 7 credits, coordinated by D. Rafael Linares
    • Distribución, Exhibición, Mercados y Festivales Module: 7 credits, coordinated by D. Stefan Schmitz

Practical Formation: 10 credits

  • Coordinated by D. Luis Ángel Pérez
  • Students must complete 300 hours of internships in an institution or company in the sector, national or international.
  • Internships are not paid and are coordinated by the Master's direction.
  • They are mandatory, face-to-face, and focused exclusively on the specific aspects of film industry management.
  • Students who can prove professional experience may validate the internships if the Master's Board of Directors approves it.

Final Master's Project: 6 credits
