Program Overview
The program for plant mechanics for sanitary, heating and air conditioning technology is a vocational training program that prepares students for a career in the installation and maintenance of complex plants and systems in supply engineering.
About the Profession
Plant mechanics for sanitary, heating and air conditioning technology work in the skilled trades and in industry at various locations, primarily on construction sites, in residential and commercial buildings as well as in workshops and scientific facilities. They carry out their work independently in accordance with the relevant regulations and safety provisions, following documents and instructions. They often work as part of a team and coordinate their work with upstream and downstream trades.
Prerequisites
Recruitment requires at least an advanced vocational training qualification or an equivalent level of education. A sound knowledge of physics, chemistry, and maths is expected. Enjoyment of the trade, the ability to work in a team, good comprehension skills, a sense of responsibility, physical agility, and a keen sense of smell are also essential.
Training Content
Practice
The practical training takes place in areas of the Technical Department of Humboldt-Universität in Berlin-Mitte and Berlin-Adlershof. The following knowledge and skills are taught:
- Planning and controlling work processes, monitoring and assessing work results and applying quality management systems
- Installing, dismantling, transporting and securing pipelines, ducts and components of supply and disposal systems
- Installing and testing electrical assemblies and components
- Installing regulation, control, safety and monitoring equipment, adjusting and testing to set values
- Testing the functions of technical supply installations and systems, adjusting, optimising and maintaining them
- Commissioning of technical supply installations and systems
- Handing over technical supply installations and systems to customers and instructing them on how to operate the installations
- Carrying out the inspection, maintenance and repair of technical supply installations and systems
- Advising and supporting customers with regard to the company's products and services, taking ecological and economic aspects into account
- Working with English-language documents and using English technical terms
- Maintenance and testing of ventilation systems and fire protection equipment
Theory
The theoretical training takes place at the OSZ "Max Taut" in Berlin and once a year at the Guild for Sanitation, Heating, Plumbing and Air Conditioning (inter-company training).
Training Duration and Salary
- Duration of training: 3.5 years
- Payment (according to TVA-L BBiG):
- in the 1st year of training 1,236.82
- in the 2nd year of training 1,290.96
- in the 3rd year of training 1,340.61
- in the 4th year of training 1,409.51
- Training time: 39 hours 24 minutes per week
- Holiday: 30 days per year
