Program Overview


Introduction to the Deutschlandstipendium

The Deutschlandstipendium is a scholarship program offered by the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The program provides financial support to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and social engagement.


Eligibility and Application Process

To be eligible for the Deutschlandstipendium, students must be enrolled at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The application process typically takes place in October of each year, with the scholarship being awarded for the following summer semester.


  • The application is submitted online through a designated portal, which is made available in November of each year.
  • The scholarship is awarded starting from the summer semester of the following year.

Required Documents

The following documents are required as part of the application process:


  • Motivation letter (maximum 3000 characters, including spaces)
  • Explanations of social engagement
  • Information about awards and prizes
  • Information about special social, family, or personal circumstances
  • Tabular curriculum vitae (without photo)
  • Current certificate of enrollment (from the AGNES online examination service, including information on subject and vacation semesters)
  • Current transcript of records (from the AGNES online examination service)
  • Current overview of achievements with average grade from the examination office (please request this independently from the responsible examination offices, exception: students of law and economics, see below)

Important Note for Students of Law and Economics

For students of law and economics, the average grades are directly requested by the Deutschlandstipendium team. Please provide your consent by submitting the declaration of consent for the transmission of average grades.


  • Copies of certificates (school leaving certificate, possibly vocational training, possibly previous university degree)
  • Possibly proofs of engagement as well as awards and prizes
  • Possibly application for extension of the maximum funding period, relevant for students who exceed their standard period of study
  • Possibly application for funding from bachelor's to consecutive master's studies
