Content
The program description is as follows: In the digital society, journalism is undergoing a transformation as the fourth pillar of democracy, serving and acting in the public interest. What does it mean for aspiring journalists to navigate this change? What is meant by media competence in this context? How can a collectively binding compass for ethical orientation and community sense be acquired? Those willing to seek answers to these questions embark on an exciting journey into digital journalism. The module conveys core competencies for professional entry. The basis is a mix of theory and practice. Students acquire political awareness for journalistic practice on the net; ethics and community sense, acting in the service and sense of the public, and they acquire knowledge about digital tools (including WordPress, DataWrapper) in terms of their usefulness and usability for journalistic practice, as well as their community character (Open Source, Creative Commons). The application of theoretical knowledge and tools is enabled through group work by developing a cross-media project. The course leaders are experienced net journalists Dr. Magdalena Taube and Krystian Woznicki. Regular and active participation, holding a short presentation, and contributing to the group project are the prerequisites for successful participation in the module.
