Program Overview


Introduction to the Deutsch-Intensivkurs (DaF) Program

The Deutsch-Intensivkurs (DaF) program is a preparatory German language course offered by the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The course is designed to prepare international students for their studies at the university.

Course Duration and Dates

The course takes place from August 31 to September 25, 2026. Online registration is possible from May 15, 2026.


Course Structure

  • The course consists of 95 teaching units (UE), with one UE equal to 45 minutes.
  • The course awards 7 ECTS points upon regular attendance (80%).
  • The course fee is 500 Euros, which includes the registration fee, placement test, German lessons, teaching materials, and a certificate of attendance with ECTS points.

Target Group and Admission Requirements

  • The minimum age for participation is 18 years.
  • Good English language skills are required.
  • The number of participants per course is limited to 12-16.

Course Schedule

  • German lessons take place from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
  • The course begins with a placement test on August 31, 2026, and lessons start on September 2, 2026.

Visa Requirements

  • Participants are responsible for obtaining their visa.
  • A tourist visa is usually sufficient for the 4-week course.
  • The university can provide an official invitation letter for the German embassy upon request.

Cancellation Policy

  • A cancellation fee of 50 Euros applies if the participant cancels up to 14 days before the course starts.
  • The full course fee will be retained if the participant cancels within 14 days of the course start or after the course has begun.

Insurance

  • Participants must have health insurance that is valid in Germany (preferably Europe).
  • It is also recommended to have accident and liability insurance.
