MA Sozialwissenschaften
The Master's program in Social Sciences at the Humboldt-Universit‰t zu Berlin aims to provide students with in-depth and specialized knowledge in sociology and political science, as well as advanced methodological competencies.
Zulassungsvoraussetzungen (Admission Requirements)
To be admitted to the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A first degree (BA) in Social Sciences, Sociology, Political Science, or a related field with a minimum of 60 ECTS credits in sociology and/or political science.
- "Spezielle Kenntnisse 1" (Specialized Knowledge 1): demonstrated basic knowledge of classical and modern sociological theories (e.g., social theory, action theory, institutional theory, differentiation and system theory) and/or classical and modern political theories (e.g., political ideology, democracy theory, elite theory, state theory) with a minimum of 15 ECTS credits.
- "Spezielle Kenntnisse 2" (Specialized Knowledge 2): demonstrated basic knowledge of empirical social research methods with a minimum of 15 ECTS credits.
- "Spezielle Kenntnisse 3" (Specialized Knowledge 3): demonstrated in-depth knowledge of specialized sociologies or subfields of political science complementary to the theoretical knowledge demonstrated in point 2, with a minimum of 10 additional ECTS credits.
- If there are more applicants who meet the requirements than available spots, admission will be decided based on the applicant's final grade.
Zulassungsverfahren (Admission Procedure)
- Please note the central guidelines for Master's applications.
- Enrollment occurs twice a year, for the winter and summer semesters. The program is subject to admission restrictions.
- The application deadline for the winter semester is May 31st, and for the summer semester, it is January 15th.
- Due to the Corona situation, the application deadlines for the winter semester 2020/21 have been changed; current information can be found on the university's central website.
