Introduction to SALSA

The School of Analytical Sciences Adlershof (SALSA) is a graduate school established at Humboldt-Universit‰t zu Berlin in 2012 within the framework of the German Excellence Initiative. SALSA offers support for junior researchers, including doctoral students and postdocs, by funding collaborative research and promoting multidisciplinary exchange that connects different fields of natural sciences.

Research Areas

SALSA focuses on various research areas, including:

  • Advanced characterization of materials
  • Analytical sciences
  • Interfaces in biological and materials chemistry
  • Development of methods for delivering new information or providing improved spatial or temporal resolution from interfaces
  • Novel reaction spaces involving interfaces, reaction compartments, or chemical reactions under confinement
  • Preparation and modification of surfaces and interfaces for analytical applications
  • New theoretical or computational approaches for addressing the topics above

Events and Activities

SALSA organizes various events and activities, such as:

  • Make and Measure conferences, which bring together researchers to discuss current topics in analytical sciences
  • Workshops on visual communication, English writing, and data analysis
  • Lectures by renowned speakers on topics related to analytical sciences
  • Poster sessions and awards for outstanding research presentations

Fellowships and Funding

SALSA provides fellowships and funding opportunities for junior researchers, including:

  • Short-term research grants for collaborative projects
  • Support for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers
  • Funding for research stays and collaborations with international partners

Partnerships and Collaborations

SALSA collaborates with various institutions and organizations, including:

  • Humboldt-Universit‰t zu Berlin
  • University of Potsdam
  • Technical University Berlin
  • Einstein Center for Catalysis (EC2)
  • International partners for research collaborations and exchanges

Publications and Awards

SALSA researchers have published numerous papers in reputable scientific journals and have received awards for their outstanding research contributions, including:

  • Best poster awards at international conferences
  • Best oral presentation awards
  • Publication in high-impact journals such as Scientific Reports and Advanced Materials Interfaces

Alumni and Career Paths

SALSA alumni have gone on to pursue successful careers in academia and industry, with many completing their doctoral degrees and moving on to postdoctoral positions or tenure-track faculty positions.
