Program Overview
Kombinationsbachelor mit Lehramtsbezug Chemie
The Humboldt-Universit‰t zu Berlin offers a structured course of study for the teaching degree in chemistry, organized in its own lectures. This allows for consideration of the special situation of these students in terms of time and subject matter. In principle, it is also possible to combine chemistry with any other teaching subject. However, it should be noted that combining two experimental subjects or subjects at different locations can make implementation more difficult.
Course Structure
The Institute of Chemistry provides an ideal-typical course of study, which begins in the winter semester. Lectures, seminars, and laboratory practicals convey the subject matter and practical skills for the typical areas of chemistry. For students with chemistry as their first subject, two in-depth additional modules are added from the fifth semester onwards.
Teaching Methodology
The teaching degree program goes one step further: future chemistry teachers are not only required to possess the necessary subject knowledge but also to be able to convey it in an exciting and interesting way. To this end, the Institute offers events during the Bachelor's program that show where children and young people encounter chemistry and how it can be explained. Here, the foundations for subject didactics and learning psychology are laid, and initial experiences in designing teaching and learning sequences are gained.
Degree and Further Studies
The Bachelor's program concludes with a subject-specific thesis and the degree of Bachelor of Science. The Institute of Chemistry also offers corresponding courses for the subsequent Master of Education program. However, a new application is required for this program.
Essentials
- The Institute of Chemistry offers a structured course of study that begins in the winter semester and enables completion within the standard study period.
- The Institute's teaching program is aimed at students of chemistry teaching with a focus on grammar schools as well as students of primary school teaching with natural sciences as an elective subject.
- The completion of the Bachelor's program enables transition to the Master of Education program, where subject didactics, research topics, and a practical semester at schools are the focus.
Research and Specializations
The program includes research areas such as green chemistry and didactics, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of chemistry and its applications in education.
