Introduction to the Humboldt Winter and Summer University
The Humboldt Winter and Summer University offers a unique opportunity for students and doctoral candidates to study at the Humboldt-Universit酹 zu Berlin for two to four weeks. The program provides a diverse range of courses, and participants can choose to take one or more courses, depending on their interests and schedule.
Admission Requirements
To participate in the Humboldt Winter and Summer University, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be enrolled as a student or a doctoral candidate at a university
- Have a relevant educational background that qualifies them to take part in the course
- Provide proof of sufficient English language skills, if applicable
English Language Proficiency
The following English language proficiency tests are recognized:
- TOEFL IBT: at least 90, with a minimum of 20 in each section
- TOEFL paper-based test: at least 580, with a minimum of 50 in each section
- IELTS: 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each section
- TOEIC: minimum 685 in all areas
- CEFR: at least B2
- CET-4 (China): 550
- CET-6 (China): 490
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: grade C
- Cambridge Advanced Certificate: grade B
German Language Proficiency
A German language certificate is required for language courses and German-language subject courses. A language assessment is required during online registration.
Registration
The registration process involves the following steps:
- Browse the course catalog, which includes Summer on Campus and Winter on Campus courses
- Apply online and create an account
- Confirm personal registration via an automatic email link
- Upload a letter of motivation, if required, which should include: - Reasons for participating in the HUWISU program - Personal and academic background that qualifies the applicant for the course - Expectations from the course - Plans for applying the knowledge gained upon return
- Provide proof of language proficiency and a copy of the student ID, if applicable

- Winter 2026: 15 November 2025
- Summer 2026: 15 May 2026
Program Details
The Humboldt Winter and Summer University offers a range of courses, and participants can choose to take one or more courses, depending on their interests and schedule.
