The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin offers a variety of programs through its Central Institution for University Sports. One such program is the Klettern Vorstieg (Lead Climbing) course.
Course Description
The Klettern Vorstieg course teaches students the fundamentals of lead climbing, including safety and climbing techniques. The course covers topics such as:
- Safety and climbing technical basics of lead climbing and lead belaying
- Clip-in, route analysis, and correct rope handling
- Spotting, theoretical introduction to the fall model, fall tests, and belay training
- Dynamic and precise belaying, familiarization with another belay device, and material science
- Risk assessment and minimization, energy-saving solutions, and rope commands during rebelaying
- Elements of partner checks outdoors, terrain assessment, and abseiling
Participation Requirements
To participate in the course, students must meet the following requirements:
- Beginners: Successful participation in a course with the contents of the DAV climbing certificate/KLEVER climbing association e.V. climbing certificate indoor toprope, ideally a completed safety technical course of the university sports of HU Berlin.
- Advanced: Successful participation in a course with the contents of the DAV climbing certificate/KLEVER climbing association e.V. climbing certificate indoor toprope, ideally a completed safety technical course of the university sports of HU Berlin, and a completed lead climbing course for beginners. The student must be able to belay in toprope.
