The Baccalaureate in Music - Classical Instrument Interpretation is a 90-credit program that aims to train interpreters with sensitivity and respect for the work and its era. The program includes the study of solo repertoire, technical development, ensemble music practice, and complementary intellectual training.

Admission Requirements

• Limited capacity
• Conditions of eligibility:
  • Be the holder of a diploma of college studies (DEC) awarded by the Ministry of Education of Quebec or have equivalent training to the DEC
  • Have passed the Year of Preparatory Studies program of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the University of Montreal
  • Be the holder of a pre-university diploma and have successfully completed one year of university studies (full-time equivalent)
  • Have successfully completed at least 24 university credits other than those of the Year of Preparatory Studies program of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the University of Montreal
• Specific conditions for this program:
  • Pass the classification tests of the Faculty appropriate to this program: music theory and dictation (classical), music theory, analysis and writing, musical writing (see Remarks)
  • Demonstrate musical qualities during an instrumental audition.* The quality of this audition determines the possibilities of admission to interpretation (see Remarks)
  • Submit a letter of presentation (see Remarks)

Tuition Fees

• Resident of Quebec: $2,177.05 per quarter (15 credits)
• Canadian non-resident of Quebec: $5,387.20 per quarter (15 credits)
• International student: $15,602.05 per term (15 credits)
• French or Belgian Francophone student: $5,387.20 per trimester (15 credits)

Career Prospects

This program prepares students for a career as a concert performer, chamber musician, orchestra musician, or accompanist. Students can also pursue careers in the arts, communications, music animation, and education. Some examples of jobs held by graduates of this program include:
