Overview

The Doctorat Interdisciplinaire en Amťnagement is focused on the theoretical, philosophical, and practical foundations of planning sciences.

Objectives and Particularities

• Objectif: To conduct research in an interdisciplinary exchange framework.
• Particularitťs:
  • Approach with multiple interveners, based on a broad understanding of human environment design, from landscape to city, from building to interior space and object.
  • Multidisciplinarity architecture, landscape architecture, design, and urbanism to address the social, cultural, and physical dimensions of living environment issues.
  • Interdisciplinary openness leading to the exploration of fields related to planning, extending knowledge, and grasping the complexity of contemporary issues.
  • Variety of research areas and specializations addressed with a consistent scientific approach.

Cheminement and Structure

• The program structure involves progression between research training through seminars and validation of research units ensuring project advancement under the supervision of a director.
• Sťminaires obligatoires et thťmatiques:
  • 1st: Epistemological issues of planning research, foundations of interdisciplinarity, and development of a personal research project.
  • 2nd: Operationalization of planning research and development of a personal research strategy.
  • Two parts for each: in-depth learning and development of general skills for planning research; development of the thesis project.
  • Thematic seminars (1 credit each) 2 types:
    • Specialized, focusing on study objects and theories.
    • General tooling, related to transversal skills.

• Cours au choix: Followed within the framework of one of the master's programs of the Facultť de l'amťnagement or within other programs of the Universitť de Montrťal.
• Crťdits de prťsentation de lťtat davancement du projet de thŤse: Divided into 3 units of 1 credit each, to be presented at key moments in your progression.
• Crťdits de recherche: Divided into 11 units of 3 credits.
• Examen gťnťral de synthŤse: To be passed before the end of the 6th semester of studies; includes 2 parts oral and written.
