Program Overview

The D.E.S.S. in Business Law offers specialized training to deepen knowledge of business law in a stimulating environment that combines theory and practice. It aims to meet the expectations and needs of Quebec and foreign lawyers in the context of market globalization.


Options

  • Droit des affaires et des relations économiques internationales: Specialized training on international business law, including dimensions relevant to businesses and the role of states.
  • Droit des produits et marchés financiers: Training for lawyers to work in law firms, companies, financial institutions, regulators, and other operators in the financial sector.
  • Droit et pratiques contractuelles des affaires: Training on business law from a transactional perspective, covering various sectors such as construction, natural resources, and entertainment.
  • Droit nord-américain des affaires: In-depth training on the issues and practice of business law in North America, leveraging the Faculty of Law's strengths as a hub between civil law and common law traditions in business law.

    • DRT 6910: Transactions commerciales internationales 1.
    • DRT 6941: Fondements: droit canadien et québécois des affaires.
    • DRT 6942: Droit de l'entreprise: structures, gouvernance et financement.
    • DRT 6943: Aspects contractuels du droit des affaires.
    • DRT 6949: Droit anglo-américain des affaires.

Admission Requirements

  • General admission requirements (Section XI) of the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Pedagogical Regulation.
  • Diploma requirements and admission thresholds for Quebec and other provinces.
  • Conditions specific to the program, including being a holder of a first-cycle diploma in law equivalent to a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and having obtained a minimum average of 2.7 out of 4.3 or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of English.

Exigence de Français ŕ lAdmission

  • New French language requirement for admission starting from the winter 2026 semester.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a good command of French through various means such as completing secondary or pre-university studies entirely in French, or by providing results of accepted French language tests.

Scolarité

  • Minimum duration of the D.E.S.S. is two trimesters, and the maximum duration is twelve trimesters following initial enrollment.
  • The dean approves the study plan established by the student and monitors its execution.

Statut

  • Students can enroll full-time or part-time. International students must enroll full-time in the fall and winter trimesters.

Transfert et Équivalence

  • A D.E.S.S. student can be admitted to the LL.M. in Business Law with a directed research project, provided they meet the program's admission requirements. All courses passed in the D.E.S.S. are credited when transferring from one program to another.
