Program Overview
Introduction to the Microprogramme en Sciences de l'Orthophonie
The Microprogramme en Sciences de l'Orthophonie is a new first-cycle program that includes four first-cycle courses (taught online) offered directly by the …cole d'Orthophonie et d'Audiologie.
Course Availability
The following courses are available:
- ORA1531 (Phonťtique clinique): already available (since 2022) and offered during the winter and summer sessions.
- ORA2001 (Anatomie, neurophysiologie et orthophonie): will be available starting from the winter 2026 session.
- ORA1131 (Dťveloppement du langage et de la communication): will be available starting from autumn 2026.
- ORA1532 (Neurosciences appliquťes ŗ l'orthophonie): will be available starting from autumn 2026.
Relationship Between the Microprogramme and Prerequisite Courses for the MaÓtrise Professionnelle en Orthophonie (MPO)
The courses represent 4 of the 7 prerequisite courses required for admission to the MPO at the Universitť de Montrťal. However, given that we are in a transition period, some flexibility (regarding acceptable alternatives) will be maintained for two of these courses (ORA1131 and ORA1532).
Details on Prerequisite Courses
- ORA1531 (Phonťtique clinique): This is a mandatory course for which no equivalence is currently recognized. Previous phonetics and phonology courses (LNG1400 or equivalent) will continue to be admissible only if they were taken no later than 2023.
- ORA2001 (Anatomie, neurophysiologie et orthophonie): Due to a change in our master's program that will come into effect next year, this course will be mandatory for all students who enroll in the program starting from autumn 2026. Given that the content of this new course is closely related to the MPO, there is currently no possibility of equivalence.
- ORA1131 (Dťveloppement du langage) and ORA1532 (Neurosciences appliquťes ŗ l'orthophonie): These two courses will be available starting from autumn 2026. Therefore, they will not affect the current application cycle for autumn 2026. Additionally, due to this transition period, the previous prerequisite courses for these two courses will be accepted for at least the next three years (for the MPO cohorts starting in autumn 2026, 2027, and 2028).
Equivalence of Courses
For courses for which equivalences will be accepted this year (all except ORA1531 and ORA2001), please consult the PDF document available on the admissions webpage to obtain the list of already accepted courses in various institutions. If your course is not on this list and you think it could be accepted, please contact the department.
Admission Requirements
You do not need to have taken all seven prerequisite courses before applying to the MPO program. You must have taken (and passed) at least three of the seven prerequisite courses before the application deadline. If a place is offered to you, your admission will be conditional on passing the remaining prerequisite courses before the start of the MPO program in late August.
Course Availability for Conditional Admission
The microprogramme courses will be available during the summer session, and a place will be reserved for all students who receive a conditional offer to the MPO. Please note that for the current application cycle (for the MPO program starting in autumn 2026), only two microprogramme courses are available (ORA1531 and ORA2001).
Enrollment in the Microprogramme
It is not necessary to enroll officially as a student in the Microprogramme en Sciences de l'Orthophonie to take one or more courses from the microprogramme. It is possible to take them as a free student or as part of any other program at the Universitť de Montrťal (psychology, linguistics, etc.) as an elective or extracurricular course.
Changes to Linguistics Course Requirements
With the addition of the mandatory course ORA2001 (Anatomie, neurophysiologie et orthophonie) to our list of prerequisite courses, the other linguistics course has been removed from the list of prerequisite courses as of this year (admission for autumn 2026).
