Program Overview

The Baccalauréat en littératures de langues anglaise et française is a unique program offered by the Université de Montréal, allowing students to achieve three objectives: initiate themselves to the analysis and critique of texts, acquire knowledge of English and French literary and cultural production around the world, and perfect their written and oral expression in both languages.


Program Structure

Courses and Particularities

  • Essential Courses: These include ANG 1002 (Reading Fiction), ANG 2020 (English Languages since 1066), FRA 1000 (Approaches to Literary Studies), and FRA 1027 (History of French Literature).
  • Optional Courses: Examples include ANG 1320 (Children's Literature in English), ANG 2322 (War, Literature, and the Arts), FRA 2311 (Poetics and Theory of Literary Genres), and FRA 3230 (Québec Author).
  • Discovery Courses: These may include ANG 1655 (Travel Literature in English), ANG 1755 (Vampires in Film and Literature), FRA 2143 (Caribbean Francophone Literature), and FRA 3313 (Literature and Psychoanalysis).

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum Cote de Rendement Collégial (CRC): 22.
  • Conditions of Admission: The candidate must be the holder of a Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) awarded by the Ministčre de l'Éducation du Québec or have equivalent training.
  • Language Requirement: The candidate must demonstrate an intermediate to advanced level of English proficiency.
  • Exigence de français ŕ ladmission: Starting from the winter 2026 semester, the Université de Montréal is revising its French language requirement to better support students' success.

Tuition Fees

  • Resident of Québec: $2,177.05 per trimester for 15 credits (including $1,513.35 in tuition fees and $663.70 in other compulsory fees).
  • Non-Québec Canadian: $5,387.20 per trimester for 15 credits (including $4,723.50 in tuition fees and $663.70 in other compulsory fees).
  • International Student: $15,602.05 per trimester for 15 credits (including $14,938.35 in tuition fees and $663.70 in other compulsory fees).
  • French or Belgian Francophone Student: $5,387.20 per trimester for 15 credits (including $4,723.50 in tuition fees and $663.70 in other compulsory fees).
