Master of Science in Athletic Training
The Master of Science in Athletic Training is a two-year, full-time program designed for students who have an undergraduate degree in another field. The program is offered by Temple University's Christopher M. Barnett College of Public Health and prepares students for clinical practice as professionals trained in:
- injury or illness prevention and wellness protection
- clinical evaluation and diagnosis
- immediate and emergency care
- treatment and rehabilitation
- organizational and professional health and well-being
Program Curriculum
The program curriculum integrates cultural competency and professionalism in global healthcare delivery, with a special emphasis on concussion and mild traumatic brain injury education. Students learn to evaluate research literature to make evidence-based decisions in their future practice with patients and collaborate effectively with interprofessional healthcare teams, patients, and athletic program administrators.
Clinical Practice Experience
Students in the program are offered clinical placements in NCAA Division I, small college, and high school settings, providing unparalleled clinical practice experience. The program also features a state-of-the-art clinical education lab with ceiling-mounted live cameras, expanded modalities, and a simulated athletic training room environment.
Program Format and AT Certification
The master's degree can be completed in two years of full-time study, balancing classroom learning and extensive clinical experiences. All courses are conducted onsite at Temple's Main Campus. Graduates of the MSAT degree program are eligible to take the Board of Certification examination to become a certified athletic trainer.
