Program Overview
Master of Science in Environmental Geoscience
The Master of Science in Environmental Geoscience is a 30-credit graduate degree program offered by the College of Science and Technology at Temple University. This program is designed to advance research skills and deepen knowledge in earth and environmental science.
Program Overview
The program provides a comprehensive understanding of the biological, chemical, and physical processes that form the environment. It investigates Earth's systems, its inhabitants, and their interactions to develop strategies for a sustainable and prosperous society through a combination of coursework and original research.
Program Objectives
The core objective of this master's degree program is to equip students with fundamental knowledge in earth science, skills in conducting scientific investigations, and experience in scientific writing and communication. Graduates will be able to address societal challenges such as climate change, the food-energy-water nexus, and intense land use.
Program Format and Curriculum
The Master of Science in Environmental Geoscience is designed to be completed in two years on a full-time basis. Students in the program complete research culminating in a thesis. Required courses teach concepts and skills through lecture and practical work in the field, laboratory, and scientific data analysis, and programming.
- Courses in the program include:
- Ecohydrology
- Nanoscience and the Environment
- Observing and Modeling Climate Change
- Remote Sensing and GIS
Program Outcomes
This comprehensive master's program prepares students to start a career in the earth and environmental science field, as well as work in industries such as education, government, and scientific writing. It also provides an excellent foundation to pursue a doctoral degree or lead projects in law, policy, and sustainability.
