Program Overview


Introduction to the J.D. / M.P.H. Program

The Temple University Beasley School of Law and the Department of Public Health in the College of Health Professions offer a dual degree program leading to the conferral of both the Juris Doctor (J.D.) and the Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) upon graduation.


Program Overview

The J.D./M.P.H. program at Temple Law makes it possible for qualified students to earn both degrees in four years. The J.D. degree requires the successful completion of 88 credits; the M.P.H. requires 45. Each school will accept up to 12 credits of work done in selected courses at the other school in fulfillment of its degree.


Who May Be Interested

  • Law students with an undergraduate or graduate degree in the life sciences
  • Law students with an interest in public policy

Program Structure

  • Year 1: Students must successfully complete the first year of law school classes with a GPA of 2.50 or higher.
  • Year 2: Students take the core curriculum for the M.P.H. plus Professional Responsibility at the law school.
  • Years 3 and 4: Students take electives from both schools and complete their M.P.H. Fieldwork experience.

Admission Requirements

  • Students must apply separately to each program.
  • Students may apply to both programs at once, or to the M.P.H. program during the 1st year of law school.
  • The LSAT is required for the J.D. application. The GRE is not required for dual degree students admitted into the Law School.
  • The J.D./M.P.H. program is only available to full-time students.
