Business Basics Certificate

The Business Basics Certificate, offered by the Fox School of Business and Management, is open to non-matriculated students only. This certificate introduces students to fundamental business courses, including accounting, human resource management, legal/ethical reasoning, and statistics, which will serve as building blocks for developing strategic thinking in the business environment.

Overview

In addition to Analytical Reading and Writing, the certificate provides a foundation in business principles. It is strongly recommended that students take the courses in the order listed within the requirements to build on their knowledge in a practical way. These business foundation courses will apply toward the BBA if students matriculate into the degree program.

Campus Locations

The Business Basics Certificate is available at the following campus locations: Main and Online, with some courses available in Japan and Rome.

The program code for the Business Basics Certificate is BU-BUSB-CR2+.

Requirements

To complete the Business Basics Certificate, students must take the following five courses, with three of these courses required to be taken at Temple University:

• ENG 0802: Analytical Reading and Writing 1 (4 credit hours)
• BA 1103: Legal and Ethical Reasoning in Business (3 credit hours)
• HRM 1101: Leadership and Organizational Management (3 credit hours)
• STAT 1001: Quantitative Methods for Business I 1 (3 credit hours)
• ACCT 2103: Financial and Managerial Accounting for Decision Making 1 (4 credit hours) Total Credit Hours: 17

Prior to enrolling in English, Statistics, and Accounting, students must receive placement assessment or take placement testing and may need to complete additional English or Math review courses if indicated by placement test results.

Completion Requirements

• A minimum grade of C in each course is required.
• The certificate will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of all required courses.
• Business Basics classes can be taken 100% online.
